THUNDER & LIGHTNING Effect: The TLF must be wired to the amplifier that feeds a speaker. A two wire audio cable is required. This cable needs an RCA plug on one end with two bare wire ends on the other, as in the photo above. Cables like this are available in various lengths at Radio Shack®. Also, this cable may be assembled by the user, rather than purchased. The wire doesn't have to be coaxial, speaker wire or lamp cord will do.
The two wires from the TLF cable are connected along with the existing two wires that come from the speaker, at the amplifier. The TLF can be connected to a PA amplifier that has only one(1) channel or speaker, it does NOT have to be a stereo sound system.
If the amplifier is stereo, as shown in the photo above, it is recommended that the TLF be connected to the Right channel speaker connection. This is because the thunder sounds on the Right channel are two seconds ahead of the Left channel on the CD.
Setting Up Thunder/Lightning Effect: Once the TLF is connected to the amplifier's speaker connection, incandescent lights up to 600 watts total may be plugged into the socket. An excellent lightning effect can be created using photoflood bulbs. These can only be purchased at a photography store and cost $ 3 or $ 4 apiece. They have a rather short life. However, their life is longer than advertised, when used with the TLF since they are not fully lit most of the time. CAUTION: due to the heat given off by photoflood bulbs, even when used with the TLF, screw them into a ceramic socket and not a plastic socket. Lowes, Home Depot, etc. carry ceramic sockets with reflectors.
With lights plugged into the TLF, plug the TLF into A.C. power. With the TLF connected to the sound system as explained above, play the Thunder track of the CD (track 1).
Start with the sensitivity knob on the TLF at maxium position. The lights should flash with each thunder sound once the volume is at a reasonable level. Once the volume is set to the level sound will be played, REDUCE the sensitivity knob position on the TLF to make the light flashes be as realistic as possible.
There is a sound power LED on the TLF. If this LED glows red then the sensitivity knob is set too high. If by chance, the sound power fuse blows because the sound sensitivity was not reduced when the sound itself was very loud, the unit may stop working. In this case the sound power fuse (3/4 amp), available in the external fuseholder, may be blown. [Caution: Replace this fuse ONLY with one of same value = 3/4 ampere - available at Radio Shack®]

Flickering Candle EFFECT
The TLF may be directly connected to a portable CD player through its external headphone jack. Plug the Right Channel which is the red RCA plug into the TLF. Turn the sound level of the CD player up to maximum and the sensitivity knob on the TLF up also to its maximum.

Haunt Master Products, Inc. warrants the Thunder/Lightning & Flicker Control, to the original purchaser, against operational failure caused by defective parts or assembly for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase.
