Repeat Control Timer - RCT

Instructions - 2008

The RCT, from Haunt Master Products, Inc. is a repeat cycle timer for the control of a haunt scare/display.  "Repeat cycle" means that it doesn't require
any trigger signal - it merely turns it's AC power outlet  ON and OFF continuously,  at user set timings of the T1 knob (ON time) and T2 knob (OFF time).  Each knob setting has a standard range of about 2 min 20 sec (140 sec), so that the maximum cycle time would be twice the standard knob range (about 4 min 40 sec).   Note: we can provide different timing for each knob in the RCT, as a SPEC job, if desired - for more info, please read the link to SPEC jobs from our Home page.

The electrical operation of this timer is provided by a separate source of 9 volts DC.   This can either be a  9-volt battery (alkaline or lithium recommended), or our 9 volt Battery Eliminator .   The only purpose of the AC power cord is to introduce a source of 120 volts. This power is then switched through the AC socket of the RCT.  For electrical safety,  because of its metal case,  the AC line cord of the RCT must be plugged into a properly grounded, 120 volt A.C., three prong socket.

Since the timer circuit operates from its 9 volt DC source, the timer knobs can be set using just a battery or Battery Eliminator  (the AC power cord doesn't have to be plugged in except to power an external AC device).   So the user can set the RCT timing knobs using just battery power.    The green LED above the T1 (ON time) knob,  and the red LED above the T2 (OFF time) knob will illuminate during their portion of the cycle.  This indicates the timing for each knob position.  If knob timings are critical: adjusting each knob with a stopwatch can bring the ON & OFF timing to within 0.25 sec.  A drop of wax or hot glue on the tip of the knob will then hold the settings if they (knobs) are in danger of being accidently moved in the field.

With its A.C. cord plugged in, and battery switch in its "ON" position, the RCT's 120 volt output socket is alternately turned ON and OFF.   Be sure that the current load is within the amp range of this unit's capability (see specifications below).

In prior year's the RCT had a three-position switch labelled "ON" "OFF" and "TEST".    This year's model has a two-position switch labelled "ON" and "OFF".   This switch controls the 9 volt DC power to the RCT.

Electrical Safety Comment: there is NO shock danger from touching any part of the white plastic terminal strip on the RCT when its AC power cord is plugged in.

OPERATION:
1) Install a 9-volt battery or 9-volt battery eliminator.
2) Adjust timing knobs using toggle switch in "ON" ("TEST" in prior years' model) position.

Note: Initially when this toggle switch is in the "ON" (TEST) position both LEDs may light, but after T1 times out, the standard operation should begin as normal.

3) Plug the RCT's line cord into a known grounded (3-prong) 120 volt A.C. socket. This prevents the metal box enclosure from ever becoming electrically charged, and thus being a human shock hazard.
4) Plug a 120 volt A.C. operated device, that does not exceed the RCT's output specifications, into the socket of the RCT.

RCT Specifications
[Please do not exceed limits or we'll both be disappointed.]

Timing is initiated by toggle switch ["ON" position]
Maximum switched RESISTIVE A.C. current = 10.0 amps  (incandescent lights are resistive loads)
Maximum switched INDUCTIVE A.C. current = 4.0 amps (this type of load includes: Motors, Solenoid Valves, Lamp Ballasts of Fluorescent lights)
Timing circuit requires a 9 volt d.c. source capable of supplying at least 50 milliamps.
Battery Life
"Heavy Duty" 9-volt Battery Life (continuous operation) = 12 hours.
"Alkaline"  9-volt Battery Life (continuous operation)  = 48 hours.
Range of Time settings:0.1 to 140 seconds (dial markings approximate)
Repeat accuracy: +/- 0.25 sec

*Note: Our Battery Eliminator may be used with the RCT.  If another  DC adaptor (not ours), is used it must be rated a minimum of  50 milliamps at 9 volts d.c., and when powering the RCT, its voltage must not exceed 15 volts d.c.

Limited Warranty

Haunt Master Products, Inc. warrants the RCT, to the original purchaser, against operational failure due to defects in parts or assembly for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. A copy of the invoice must accompany the unit's return for In-Warranty repair/replacement.
